Aerobic metabolism of the hepatopancreas of Helix pomatia.
The presence ofthe tricarboxylic-acid cycle (Krebs's cycle) has been demonstrated in most mammalian tissues investigated (Krebs & Johnson, 1937; Green, Loomis & Auerbach, 1948), where it appears to be the major pathway for the oxidation of carbohydrate, fat and protein intermediaries. No detailed examinations have been made in the invertebrates. However, evidence has been presented of Krebs's c...
متن کاملEffect of alternating the magnetic field on phosphate metabolism in the nervous system of Helix pomatia.
The effect of extremely low frequency magnetic fields (50 Hz, 0.5 mT) - ELF-MF, on phosphate metabolism has been studied in the isolated ganglions of the garden snail Helix pomatia, after 7 and 16 days of snail exposure to ELF-MF. The influence of ELF-MF on the level of phosphate compounds and intracellular pH was monitored by ³¹P NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the activity of enzymes involved ...
متن کاملThe Mucoproteins of the Snails, Helix Aspersa and Helix Pomatia
The problem of the structure of complex proteins containing carbohydrates in their molecule is still a subject of discussion. The fundamental questions which have been debated during the last decades and which have been the subject of many controversies are concerned with the nature of the carbohydrate group present in the molecule of these substances. Since the discovery of mucoproteins or muc...
متن کاملBiochemical and electronmicroscopic investigations on Helix pomatia collagen.
The skin of Helix pomatia was investigated by biochemical methods and electronmicroscope. Biochemical investigations showed that Helix pomatia collagen represents a methionine-lacking collagen resistant to CNBr-cleavage. Electron microscopic studies showed a cross striation pattern of 53--57 nm.
